House Art and Cloud Print by Angus Collis Titled: Washing in the Wind by Artwork Angus Collis. Edition of 30. Size A2

The concept of home holds profound significance in my artistic journey. With every stroke of the brush, I delve into the essence of why we create art—capturing not just what we love, but where we find belonging and comfort.

The house, a symbol of sanctuary, becomes my muse, inviting me to explore its familiar contours and everyday charm. In celebrating the mundane, I illuminate the intrinsic beauty of grounding oneself in the simple joys of life.

Each painting is a testament to the time, skill, and heartfelt effort poured into its creation. For me, authenticity is key; I paint what resonates deeply within, infusing every artwork with a personal touch that speaks volumes. It’s this connection to my subjects that fuels my creative process, infusing each piece with an undeniable passion.

Recently, I’ve embarked on a series of works that delve into the urban landscape, with a particular focus on the ethereal beauty of clouds, Fata Morgana Mirage being a great example of this.

These celestial forms, ever-changing yet constant, serve as a poignant reminder of the dynamic nature of our surroundings. You can explore examples of this exploration on my artwebsite, where each piece is a testament to my ongoing journey of discovery and expression.

As I paint, I find myself immersed in a dialogue with the canvas, each brushstroke a whispered conversation between heart and hand. It’s a journey of discovery, a quest to unearth the hidden stories woven into the fabric of our surroundings.

Through my art, I seek to capture not just the physical form of a house, but the emotions it evokes—the warmth of laughter shared within its walls, the solace found in its embrace during times of solitude.

In the dance of light and shadow, I find inspiration aplenty. Clouds, with their ever-shifting shapes and hues, offer an endless wellspring of creativity. Each painting is a testament to the fleeting beauty of the moment, a snapshot frozen in time for eternity.

And yet, amidst the ephemeral, there lies a sense of permanence—a reminder that even as the world changes around us, the essence of home remains constant. It’s this timeless truth that guides my hand as I navigate the vast expanse of the artistic landscape, each stroke a tribute to the enduring beauty found in the ordinary moments of life.

Blind description:

A stripped back landscape reduced to the bare essentials. Inspired by the Spanish dry interior and homeland to the famous Spanish Jamon. Burches are growing sparsely next to train tracks. Looking through them you can see pig farms with silos positioned at the ends of the buildings dispersing food to animals. The ground is of an ocre brown nature. Slight hills are rolling into the distance like waves or ground swell travelling across a space.

Titled “Scales” a Deeply Layered Geometric tree Print

This painting depicts avenues of somnolent, deeply layered trees, slightly askew and abstracted against
a pale blue sky. It was inspired through reflection on paths taken (or not), and a certain nostalgia at the
point of mid-life. The use of mixed references from Europe and Aoteoroa point to life lived between
Barcelona and Ohiwa harbour with my Ukrainian-born wife. Long-standing post-modern and kitsch
influences are apparent in the collaged feel of different elements, enhancing a subtle sense of
displacement. The image marks the direction of my ongoing visual enquiry, with the geometry inherent
in our natural surroundings increasingly drawn out. A special note should be made to the process of creating this work, a study was made that was a great starting point, a smaller woodblock print titled Early Autumn, worth checking out alongside other prints from the prints section.
