About This Work

This Forest Art Print NZ explores the forgotten spaces of pine forests planted by man, perhaps even echoing the distant feel of Siberian birch forests. Created during a Barcelona summer as the artist searched for cooler subject matter, Forest 3c captures the essence of solitude and contemplative spaces.

The piece showcases advanced textured underpainting techniques that bring out the nuanced feeling of  bark texture and lichen detail. Patches of colour are set within a wintery white palette enhanced with soft pastels, creating depth and visual interest through textural application. This winter forest artwork reflects themes of isolation and the artist in the studio, searching for that perfect creative space.

The success of this work led to a continued exploration of forest themes in subsequent pieces, establishing a signature style in contemporary forest artwork.

This New Zealand Art Prints captures the essence of a winter drive to Maria, where roadside snaps of forest around farms revealed the striking beauty of grey day landscapes. The upright stand of trees, standing like soldiers, came to life against the moody winter sky, their bark texture enhanced by the subdued light.

The piece features fine detail work with rich yellow ochre tones that highlight the intricate bark patterns and winter tree forms. This NZ forest landscape reflects the unique character of our rural countryside, where grey days transform ordinary roadside trees into compelling subjects. About This Work

This Golden Tree A2 Print, titled Pataka started as a commission piece with the brief summary being to create a painting with trees in blue and yellow. Interestingly the client is partially colour blind and needed colours that they would recognise. Needless to say, they were extremely happy with the result.

The piece features rich yellow ochre tones that capture golden light filtering through the landscape, contrasted with vibrant blues that bring depth and balance to the composition. Drawing inspiration from traditional Maori Pataka (storehouses), this New Zealand inspired work weaves cultural significance into a contemporary nature wall art piece. The warm colours create an inviting atmosphere perfect for spaces that celebrate natural beauty.
