About This Work
This Contemporary Tree Landscape Painting, titled Pataka, was created as a commission piece with the brief summary being to create a painting with trees in blue and yellow. Interestingly the client is partially colour blind and needed colours that they would recognise. As a modern landscape artist, I found this challenge particularly rewarding - creating a piece that worked within specific visual needs while maintaining artistic integrity. Needless to say, they were extremely happy with the result.
Drawing inspiration from traditional Maori Pataka (storehouses for precious items), this work explores themes of preservation and natural beauty through rich yellow ochre tones contrasted with vibrant blues.
